First match to kick us off on Match Day 2, of the Roy Tregay Memorial Cup, was not one for the avid spectator as two novices of the game, Davids and Ricjkard, with Lyon and Man United respectively. It was the non football loving Ricjkard that set the early pace with a rasping shot from the right edge of the box with Valencia but was comfortably saved by Lloris in goal for Lyon. The rest of the first half was a game of who can pass it out of play more with no real attacking play up until the whistle.
Thankfully it was an action packed second half with a flurry of chances either end, the half time talks were obviously working. On the 64th minute Ricjkard won the ball with Rooney who then went on a mazy run to open up space on the edge of 18 yard line, firing a low crisp shot straight into the hands of Lloris. From the resulting punt out Davids gets the ball on the right halfway marker and hits a delightful looping cross field ball into the path of the attacking Gomis, with De Gea marching it was a race to the ball, Gomis winning and lofting the ball over De Gea, the ball could only trickle its way to goal leaving Ferdinand to hoof it away before crossing the line.
The deadlock was finally broken 7 mins later when Davids used Gomis to snatch the ball from De Gea’s feet after the Manchester United keeper rushed out of goal to claim a forward pass from Lyon. After tussling with vidic gomis fired a shot into the right corner of the goal, 1-0. Ricjkard tried his best to open up some late opportunites only to be snuffed out by the steadfast Lyon defence, and on the break Lyon nearly made it 2-0 with Gomis heading the ball up for himself to unleash a scorching volley only to narrowly go over the bar. Davids had managed to secure his lead as well as the vital three points when the ref finally blew his whistle.
Still awaiting Match report from game two which was a cracker, Doug Poleaxed by Tomasz, 3-2.
